A time to heal

Today is the beginning of Advent. It is a wonderful opportunity!

Advent is the span of time before Christmas. It’s a time of preparation. It can be a happy time, as we look forward to celebrating Christmas, but if we are to take it seriously, Advent is a time to examine ourselves. How are we doing? Are we growing? Are we becoming better people?

Childhood trauma hangs on. And, yes, most, if not all, of us carry it. Childhood is hard! We get made fun of. We don’t fit in. We don’t have what “she” has. They got picked and we didn’t. We carry the wounds from this into adulthood. That’s why some of us are bullies. Some of us are condescending. Some of us are afraid. Some of us are very, very depressed.

God cares. God wants each one of us to come to Him and work with Him to BECOME. God has the means. We must supply the will! We don’t have to stay narrow, cruel, judgmental, sorrowful, weak, angry. These are leftovers from wounds received, wounds that cry out for healing. Advent is the time for healing.

Reflection

What can you do to sit in God’s presence each day until Christmas? You can fill the silence with words, or you can just open your heart to Him. You can just want, cry, mourn…

Prayer

Dear God, may I come to You. For a moment or two at least each day, may I have enough courage, enough resolve to just present my heart to You. I do want to be a good person, a strong person, a kind person. I’ve got wounds to heal. May I be willing to work with You, to allow You to make me whole. Amen.
