God’s word imparts ability
When a loved one encourages us, it is nice. It is comforting. And, if we really hear them and take in their words, it can even be motivating. That’s human to human. What is different when the encouragement comes from God?
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
We read these words often enough. We may be comforted by them. We may use them to comfort another. But do we take these words any where near the seriousness with which they are meant to be taken? These are the words of God. Do we need reminding what the word of God is capable of?
“Let there be light,” and there was light.” (cf Genesis 1:3)
God creates with a word. If galaxies, photons, quantum mechanics, and the digestive systems of ants were made by His word, how do our difficulties, however traumatic, compare?
I write this in no way to minimize our trials but to shake us into an attendance with God that we will not break, and why? Because God’s word imparts ability. When we take it, seriously take it and rely on it, we will experience an ability we did not have before. Wisdom. Strength. Insight. Patience. Joy. Courage. Peace of mind.
Ability.
Reflection
What happens within you when you attend to God’s word? What do you think can happen?
Prayer
Dear God, I am not taking Your word seriously enough. I am leaving it there on the page rather than breathing it in and allowing it to impart all that it can within me! Open my eyes, Lord! May I see! May I participate with Your word. May I experience what it is doing! Amen.
