Looking for God is vital

We don’t teach one another how to look for God. Not really. We pray. We try hard to watch for answers, but when the answer we wanted does not come, we hang our heads and worry that God does not exist, God isn’t hearing us (accompanied by all the self-doubt, fear, and anger that thought stirs within us!), or God said no.

God never says no. God never leaves us without something.

Expect, find, and use that something.

Oh, now, we’re talking in abstract terms, right? What does that really mean anyway?!

It means God will give us what we need to continue putting one foot in front of the other. It means as we do just that, we’ll find good things along the way, things like maturity, character, insight, virtue. This is how we become bigger, better people. God’s grace combines with our open minds and hearts to stretch us so we can accommodate more wisdom, more patience, more compassion, more peace.

Looking for God is vital. Finding God is guaranteed. It works wonders within us.

Reflection

How do you look for God, especially when the answer you wanted isn’t the one you got?

Prayer

Dear God, teach me to not look away when I don’t see or hear you in the way I wanted to see and hear. I will find, if I keep looking. May I know I have received! May I remain open to what you are doing within me. May I work with the grace You have undoubtedly given me. Amen.
