If you’re getting mauled by evil, burnt by fire, then what in heaven does the bible mean when it has the audacity to teach “no evil shall befall you?!”

We don’t come to the Bible flippantly. We don’t come to it to condemn our neighbor or put ourselves in the right. And, we don’t come to it without our own baggage — our scars, predispositions, history, and prejudices.

The God-of-the-public-square allows us to wear our costumes. The real God invites us to risk shedding those to find out who we really are.

Our memories are dangerous in this evil-soaked world because they reveal the world is far more soaked in God than it is in evil!

God’s words don’t come unaccompanied. They empower….

Something happened when Jesus died on that cross, and we who suffer need to spend some time inside it.

Why does God “bend the heavens” (Psalm 18:9) and come down to us? Why does God move toward us, especially when we are wounded? Might it be because those wounds open us to see God in ways we otherwise might not?

The death of a loved one should change us for the better…
