Lay us down to die

He strips our bodies naked and commands you look away,
And weave him lame excuses, and dig for us a grave,
And forfeit your humanity, and spew his every lie…
Can you not see, he rapes you, too, and lays us down to die?

Faith so thin upon your bones, God’s grace is disemboweled.
You hold a Bible like a shield, it’s tattered, soddened, fouled.
The Spirit blows its wind your way, you deftly step aside
To feed the monster eating you, and lay us down to die.

Blacks and Browns and Muslims, O, he’ll find them all a cage.
Now capture virgins as you laugh and argue over age.
How easily he fools you, this master of all lies.
Will you dismiss his hold on you, or lay us down to die?
